About Us

The L J Blessings Ranch, located just outside Freer, TX in Duval County, is in the heart of South Texas Brush Country. L J Blessings was once part of the larger Cabeza Ranch of approximately 20,000 acres owned by the Welder Family with history dating back to the 1800’s. Come experience white-tailed deer hunting on roughly 1,000 acres, that hunts like 3,000-4,000 acres because of the thickness of the vegetation.

All great home-cooked meals will be served in our big, new, beautiful cedar-finished lodge where you can view many deer heads taken from this ranch. To make your stay comfortable, we offer hunters a separate 4 bedroom, 2 bath house including a TV room and kitchen. Non-hunters are very welcome.

The owner, Jim Foulkrod, has been hunting in South Texas for over 30 years. His outdoor experience and knowledge of the land will ensure the hunt of a lifetime! Each hunter will be paired to one experienced guide and you will be hunting from many different, great elevated bow or gun blinds, all with walk-up stairs. We have both rifle and bow ranges to sight in your weapons. The best time to schedule successful hunts is October through December.

All deer are entered and scored at Texas’s oldest deer contest, Muy Grande. In 2015 Jim was voted Rancher of the Year at the 50th anniversary of the contest. In 2014 he shot Stickers - a 7 1/2 year old 240 inch plus native whitetail deer.

We bought the ranch 10 1/2 years ago and started our protein feed program. This management program is designed to produce outstanding whitetail bucks and healthy native deer, as well as for introducing our breeder deer into the pasture in 2014. L J Blessings Ranch has a rolling topography which greatly enhances the beauty of the ranch. There are 2 tanks on the property as well as water every 65 acres and ample natural vegetation.

The L J Blessings Ranch is easily accessible on Hwy 59. We are 8 miles from Freer, 62 miles from Laredo, 80 miles from Corpus Christi, and 110 from San Antonio. There is also a small airport for private aircraft in Freer. If you go on-line and look up Freer, TX on Wikipedia, it shows a picture of the entrance gate to L J Blessings Ranch!
